Diaper Mania

Today is a normal day in my life in our new home. Today I am enjoying all that life has to offer...uuummm yea I wish!! Today I am actually cleaning dirty, poopy and pee pee cloth diapers. Please don't all say "gross" at the same time. For those who don't know this about me already, I am a mom who will try any and everything that is considered "better, or best" for my kids. What mom does not want to give their little one the best of it all? I do plenty of research and reading and asking of questions about whatever it is that is "best" before I try it. I do want to make sure the claims are true and that there is plenty of reasons to convince myself to do these things for my kids.

One of the things I convinced myself and my husband of, is that cloth diapering was thee absolute best and cost savvy thing to go with for our sixth baby. Yes I did say "sixth baby". I have also convinced us that making our own baby food is best as well but we shall talk about that in another post in the future. Today I want to share with you the reasons I chose cloth diapering and how it is I am washing these cloth diapers for our little darling.

I chose to cloth diaper at first because G diapers was just too cute to resist and I just had to try them. So when I saw them at Baby's R Us I bought them. My husband thought I was crazy, his family thought I was crazy and my mom said I was nuts! I spent quite a large amount on the baby's first supply of cloth diapers as the G diapers were on the more expensive side. I had to prove my family wrong about me not being crazy (not sure they are convinced about that yet) so I did my research and proved my points with the same points I am going to give you.

  • Cloth diapering is better for the environment
  • It is healthier for the baby's bottom, since some disposable diapers use chemicals and synthetic materials in their diapers.
  • Cloth diapering saves money in the long run.
  • Cloth diapering helps to prevent diaper rash in babies that are more likely to get them.
  • Cloth diapers are cute! (my favorite reason)
Now let's get to how I clean my baby's diapers. I first rinse them in hot water to get all the pee and poop out of them. I then make a bin of hot soapy water to wash them in. I use a 1/2 tsp. of detergent for this size bin. In the future I will be experimenting with making my own detergent but until then I use Dreft. I scrub the diapers by hand if they are not heavily soiled but if they are I use a small scrubby brush to get any left over residue off and to remove any stains.

After I am done scrubbing the diapers by hand, I hang them up to dry in my garage on my make-shift laundry line. I made this laundry line to hang my screen print shirts (a future post about this is coming) to dry but it works double duty cause I can also hang my baby's diapers to dry on here too. Once dried I just fold them up and put them away for another day of use.

Our little princess has a nice stash and supply of cloth diapers. I found this great sale at Baby's R Us on the Cocalo brand diapers, the ones that come with the matching t-shirts and I bought the whole supply of them. My baby now has a supply big enough to get her through a couple of years worth of cloth diapering.

For me it is a simple process and not time consuming at all but I work from home so I have plenty of time to do this. I have also cloth diapered while working out of the home and in the next post I will share with you how we handle going out with our little one while cloth diapering. I hope my post has inspired you to at least try cloth diapering or to support a mom who is doing it. I used disposable diapers with all five of my kids before our last and they survived, are healthy and their bottoms are still attached. If cloth diapering is not for you then it just isn't and you are by no means any less of a mom then any of us who cloth diaper. Have an awesome day and thanks so much for taking time to visit me and read my rants! Till next time...XOXO

A princess tutu for skye

My daughter can always get me to try a project I have never done before just to put a smile on her face. The project she has gotten me to try today is, a tutu. You ever see those tutu's in the store for the lil girls and thought "how cute!" but was not willing to spend the hefty price for them? Well I have a solution that is inexpensive, easy and fun. You can make your own! I will post a tutorial on how to make your own in a later post, so please come back if you want to learn how to make your own inexpensive tutu. The picture is a teaser to what my baby's tutu is coming out like.
She is so excited and I cant wait to finish it for her.

My Mother's Child

My mom turned 53 this year, amazing that she is just as feisty now as she was when she was in her 20's . She is now a grandmother to 12 beautiful young kids and she loves pictures of her grandchildren. She loves them so much that when ever she visits, pictures of our kids walk away with her. It's a inside joke between my husband and I, that if we ever need to find a missing pic of the kids just go over and check my mom's wall. You are sure to find the pic in a frame hanging on her wall or on a shelf. So when I thought of the perfect gift to give her for her birthday, a photo album filled with pictures of her grand kids seemed perfect for her!

I used my Cricut with the Give a Hoot cartridge, my Cuttlebug for the embossing, and Yourstory Photo to bind my photo album. It was quick and simple to make, and I am sure she will cherish and love it for years to come! XoXo

Studying for finals

As you see I have not made any posts in 2 weeks, I have a really good reason. I am studying for my finals that are due 4/25, I usually place myself on a strict no crafting/no social sites diet :-) when finals come around. I hop to be back and posting soon as this is all over. I am excited to share all I know and have learned about creating with you. On a side note: I found a great deal on some fabric at Walmart last night, I got 20 yd of fabric for $1.50!!! I was so excited I had to contain myself from creating with it last night. I shall return soon, pray I pass my finals and I hope you all have a great week!

Something for my daughters

Today was a long day! I made two different style baby booties for my 2 month old and two dresses as well. I feel so accomplished and proud to be able to make clothes for my kids and how nothing is off limits as long as I have my sewing machine, my serger, some thread and beautiful fabric! My 4 year old is loving that mommy can and will make her as many dresses as her heart desires. Without further delay I present to you my newest creations!(Please excuse the photos, I took them with my phone)

I hope I have inspired you to "Make Something" today, anything will do as long as your creating. Thanks for stopping in! XoXo
